About Brazilian Day Stockholm

Brazilian Day Stockholm 2025 is back with its most vibrant edition yet, celebrating Brazil’s Independence Day with an unforgettable mix of music, dance, art, and gastronomy. Organized by Magdalena Strömgren and Rubem Farias of Frigazz Entertainment, with institutional support and various partners, the festival continues its mission of fostering cultural exchange as part of a global series of celebrations that began in New York in 1984.

Created by the Brazilian Embassy in Stockholm in 2010, the event has grown into one of the largest Brazilian cultural festivals outside of Brazil. After many memorable years in Kungsträdgården, this year the party moves to its new home – the Maxim Theatre in Karlaplan – a stunning indoor venue where the city’s pulse meets the rhythms of Brazil.

The 2025 edition offers a full day of programming:

Free entry until 5:00 PM – A family-friendly atmosphere with interactive activities, street food, samba, capoeira, forró, and rhythms that get everyone moving. On stage: Lilla Akademiens Big Band & Latin American Ensemble, special performances by local artists such as Simone Moreno, Deise Andrade, Bartira Fortes, and Kelly D’Rio, plus special guests from Brazil including Luíza Nobel and Viny Brasil.

From 5:00 PM – Special Main Stage Program (ticket required) – An exclusive concert experience with some of Brazil’s most acclaimed artists:

  • The Brazilian music icon Chico César
  • Guitar legend and world star Kiko Loureiro, known from the rock bands Megadeth and Angra
  • Singer Fantine Tho
  • Master musician Filó Machado


From Brazilian street food and drinks to a dedicated children’s area with crafts, dance, and instrument workshops, from dance shows to live concerts, Brazilian Day Stockholm 2025 promises a day of warmth, rhythm, and togetherness.

Live Music

Brazilian music encompasses various regional musical styles such as samba, bossa nova, forró, baião, axé, sertanejo, tropicália, chorinho, maracatu, frevo, funk carioca, MPB, among others. For the music attractions, Brazilian Day Stockholm brings many acclaimed artists, which feature some of the most famous bands, samba drum and singers from Brazil living in Sweden and abroad.

Traditional Food

Brazilian traditional food varies greatly by region. Some typical dishes are feijoada, feijão tropeiro, vatapá, moqueca, acarajé, caruru, and salgadinhos (Brazilian finger food) such as pão-de-queijo, pastéis, coxinhas, and kibbeh. Cachaça is Brazil's native liquor and the main ingredient in the national cocktail, caipirinha. At Brazilian Day Stockholm, several stands sell national products and typical food.

Kids Activities

Brazilian Day Stockholm offers an abundance of activities for children, from educational to fun games and sport. There is also a special storytelling session where children learn about Brazilian folklore and its incredible characters, such as Saci, Curupira, Iara, Boto-cor-de-rosa, Boitatá, among others. These activities create a welcoming environment to engage your children in Brazilian culture.



Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural tradition and martial art that combines acrobatics, music, dance and philosophy. Developed by African slaves in Brazil, capoeira has served not only as a form of self defence, but also as a way to maintain spirituality, art and culture. At Brazilian Day Stockholm, the audience comes into contact with capoeira through workshops and live performances.

Dance Workshops

Samba is the most widely known Brazilian dance form. Besides samba, Brazilian dance comes from various rhythms and styles of folk music such as forró, axé, maxixe, maculelê, xaxado, baião, frevo, funk carioca, lambada, among others. In addition to dance shows, Brazilian Day Stockholm offers dance workshops for all ages to experience and enjoy Brazilian traditional rhythms.

Sport Activities

Brazilians are heavily involved in sports. Football is the most popular sport in Brazil. Besides football, sports like footvolley, beach handball, volleyball, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, judo, surfing, basketball, tennis, swimming, athletics, and motorsports are widely practiced and popular in the country. Brazilian Day Stockholm offers sport workshops and activities.
